THE WALKING LIBERTY DESIGN

The Walking Liberty half dollar was designed by Adolph A. Weinman and minted from 1916 to 1947.

Its obverse depicts Liberty walking toward the rising sun, with her right hand extended and branches of oak and laurel carried in her left arm. The American flag flows around her shoulders, combining classical sculpture with American symbolism.

This sculpture preserves those recognizable elements while adapting the pose and drapery into a freestanding figure. The hand supporting the coin extends forward, palm upward, creating a dedicated place to display your coin.

DESIGNED FOR WALKING LIBERTY HALF DOLLARS

This display is particularly suited to pairing a Walking Liberty half dollar with the figure from its obverse.

The holder can be tailored to your coin’s diameter and thickness. Other U.S. denominations can also be accommodated, including cents, nickels, dimes, quarters and smaller dollar coins.

For this design, half dollars and smaller coins provide the best visual proportions. Large dollar coins around 38 mm, such as Morgan dollars, may cover more of the sculpture and are not the recommended pairing.

HISTORICALLY INSPIRED DESIGN

The sculpture draws on Weinman’s original Walking Liberty artwork, including Liberty’s cap, flowing gown, American flag and oak and laurel branches.

The original coin depicts a full-length figure in relief. This display translates that artwork into a three-dimensional sculpture, with adjustments to the arm position, folds and supporting details to accommodate the coin holder.

It is an artistic interpretation, not an official U.S. Mint product.
