About this display
Display your Trade Dollar or other coin alongside a full-body sculptural interpretation of Lady Liberty inspired by William Barber’s Trade Dollar design.
This custom coin display reimagines the Trade Dollar’s seated Liberty as a three-dimensional figure, preserving recognizable elements such as the olive branch, wheat, bales of merchandise and LIBERTY ribbon.
The integrated coin platform is positioned beside Liberty so that the coin becomes part of the composition without covering the sculpture.
Rather than displaying your coin on a generic stand, Aurea Displays connects it with one of the most distinctive designs in American numismatic history.
Authorized in 1873 and designed by U.S. Mint Chief Engraver William Barber, the Trade Dollar was created primarily for international commerce, particularly trade with East Asia.
Its obverse depicts Liberty seated on bales of merchandise, extending an olive branch toward the sea. A sheaf of wheat appears behind her, while a ribbon bearing the word LIBERTY rests in her other hand. Together, these elements represent commerce, agriculture and peaceful international trade.
The reverse features an American eagle together with the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 420 GRAINS, 900 FINE and TRADE DOLLAR.
This sculpture translates Barber’s seated Liberty into a detailed three-dimensional display while preserving the character and symbolism of the original coin artwork.
Although the proportions of this display work especially well with the approximately 38 mm U.S. Trade Dollar, the coin holder can be made to fit any U.S. coin.
Suitable coin types include:
The holder is prepared according to the diameter and thickness of the coin you intend to display. This provides a more secure and visually balanced fit than a generic one-size holder.
Please enter your coin’s exact diameter and thickness in the personalization field when ordering.
While smaller denominations can be displayed, Trade Dollars and similarly sized large U.S. coins provide the strongest visual proportions with this particular sculpture.
The sculpture is based on William Barber’s Liberty design for the U.S. Trade Dollar.
Details from the original obverse—including Liberty’s seated pose, olive branch, flowing classical clothing, wheat, bales of merchandise and LIBERTY ribbon—have been translated into three dimensions.
The result is a display that connects the physical coin with the historical artwork, commercial purpose and period behind it.
The coin rests naturally in the integrated platform rather than being glued, clamped or permanently attached.
Particular attention was given to the holder’s position because large silver dollars create more leverage than smaller coins. The design was tested to establish a good balance between coin visibility, statue visibility and overall stability.
The holder can also be adapted for smaller U.S. denominations. By providing the diameter and thickness of your coin, you will receive a holder prepared for the specific piece you intend to display.
The result allows the coin to become a focal point while keeping the complete Trade Dollar–inspired Liberty sculpture clearly visible beside it.
The coin shown in the photographs is for display purposes only and is not included.
The holder can be made for all U.S. coin denominations, but coin dimensions may vary between types, dates, minting processes and individual pieces.
For the most accurate fit, please provide the exact diameter and thickness of your coin when ordering. Measurements should include any capsule or protective enclosure if you intend to display the coin inside it.
