About this display

Display your Una and the Lion five-pound piece, or another Victorian gold coin, alongside a sculpture of Queen Victoria with a lion, with an integrated platform for the coin.

This coin display presents Victoria as Una from Spenser’s Faerie Queene, walking beside a lion and holding the orb — the composition William Wyon created for the 1839 five-pound gold piece. A coin platform sits on the base in front of the group so the piece becomes part of the composition.

Aurea Displays connects the physical coin with the artwork, symbolism and history behind one of the most admired gold designs of the nineteenth century.

UNA AND THE LION

William Wyon’s Una and the Lion reverse was struck for Queen Victoria’s 1839 five-pound gold piece. Victoria, as Una, walks left beside a striding lion, holding a sceptre and orb. The type is among the most sought-after of all British gold coins.

The 1839 five-pound piece measures about 38 mm. Sovereigns, crowns and other large Victorian coins can also be displayed when their diameter and thickness are supplied.

This sculpture uses Wyon’s reverse as the starting point for a full three-dimensional group. The crown, orb, cloak and lion are an artistic interpretation created to complement the 1839 gold design.

DESIGNED FOR VICTORIAN GOLD

This display is particularly suited to pairing an Una and the Lion five-pound piece, a Victorian sovereign, or another large British gold or silver coin with the figure.

The holder can be tailored to your coin’s diameter and thickness.

Please provide your coin’s diameter and thickness in the personalization field so the holder can be adapted to your chosen coin.

HISTORICALLY INSPIRED DESIGN

The young queen, the lion and the orb follow Wyon’s Una and the Lion type of 1839.

It is an artistic interpretation, not an official Royal Mint product.
