About this display
Display your 1797 Cartwheel penny or twopence alongside a seated sculpture of Britannia, with an integrated platform for the coin.
This coin display presents the early Soho Mint Britannia of George III’s Cartwheel copper: seated on a rock, olive branch and trident in hand, waves at her feet. A coin platform sits on the base beside her so the piece becomes part of the composition.
Aurea Displays connects the physical coin with the artwork, symbolism and history behind the first steam-struck British copper of 1797.
The Cartwheel penny and twopence were designed by Conrad Heinrich Küchler and struck at Matthew Boulton’s Soho Mint in 1797. Their thick, wide rims earned the nickname Cartwheel. Britannia sits facing left, holding an olive branch and a trident, with a shield beside her.
The penny measures about 36 mm; the twopence about 41 mm. Both are unusually large for British copper, which is why this display is scaled for that type.
This sculpture uses Küchler’s 1797 reverse as the starting point for a full seated figure. The olive branch, trident, rock and waves are an artistic interpretation created to complement the Soho Mint design.
This display is particularly suited to pairing a 1797 Cartwheel penny or twopence with the seated figure.
The holder can be tailored to your coin’s diameter and thickness. Other large British copper of similar size can also be accommodated.
Please provide your coin’s diameter and thickness in the personalization field so the holder can be adapted to your chosen coin.
The seated pose, olive branch and trident follow the Britannia type on the 1797 Cartwheel issues.
It is an artistic interpretation, not an official Royal Mint product.
The coin rests naturally on the integrated platform without being glued, clamped or permanently attached, making it easy to place and remove.
The photographs show the display with an empty coin platform. A coin is not included.
Coin dimensions vary between denominations and individual pieces. Please provide the diameter and thickness of the coin you intend to display when ordering.
