About this display

Display your Morgan dollar alongside a full-body sculptural interpretation of Lady Liberty inspired by the portrait on the Morgan Dollar.

This coin display takes George T. Morgan’s famous Liberty portrait and reimagines it as a seated three-dimensional figure, preserving recognizable elements from the coin such as her hairstyle, cap, wheat and cotton details while extending the portrait into a complete classical sculpture.

The integrated coin platform is positioned beside Liberty so that the coin becomes part of the composition rather than covering the figure.

Rather than displaying a Morgan dollar on a generic stand, Aurea Displays connects the physical coin with the artwork that made it one of the most recognizable designs in American numismatics.

MORGAN DOLLAR LIBERTY

The Morgan Dollar was introduced in 1878 and was designed by U.S. Mint engraver George T. Morgan.

Its obverse features Morgan’s distinctive portrait of Liberty, surrounded by thirteen stars and the inscription E PLURIBUS UNUM. The portrait is particularly recognizable for Liberty’s elaborate hair, classical cap and the agricultural elements woven into her hair.

This sculpture uses that portrait as the starting point for a full-body interpretation of Liberty. Because the original coin only depicts her head and neck, the seated body, clothing and pose are a sculptural interpretation designed to complement the style of the original numismatic artwork.

DESIGNED FOR MORGAN DOLLARS

This display was designed especially with Morgan Dollars and other large U.S. dollar coins around 38 mm in diameter in mind.

The size and position of the coin holder were developed so that a large dollar remains visually prominent while not covering the main details of the Liberty sculpture.

The stand has also been physically tested with large coins to establish a good balance between the weight of the displayed coin, the position of the holder and the stability of the sculpture.

Even with a Morgan Dollar mounted beside the figure, the display remains well balanced and stable on a flat surface.

While the proportions work particularly well with Morgan Dollars, the holder can also display many other U.S. coin sizes, including:

  • cents
  • dimes
  • nickels
  • quarters
  • half dollars
  • smaller dollar coins
  • large approximately 38 mm U.S. dollars

For this particular design, however, Morgan Dollars and similarly sized large dollars provide the best visual proportions.

You may provide your coin’s diameter and thickness in the personalization field for additional fit certainty.

HISTORICALLY INSPIRED DESIGN

The head and hairstyle of the sculpture are based on the Liberty portrait created by George T. Morgan for the Morgan Dollar.

Details from the original portrait have been translated into three dimensions, while the seated body and classical drapery complete the figure in a style intended to complement the late-19th-century coin design.

MADE FOR COIN COLLECTORS

The coin rests naturally on the integrated platform rather than being glued, clamped or permanently attached.

Particular attention was given to the placement of the holder because large silver dollars create considerably more leverage than smaller coins. The design was tested to find a good balance between coin visibility, statue visibility and overall stability.

The result allows a Morgan Dollar to become the focal point of the display while still keeping the Liberty sculpture clearly visible beside it.

PLEASE NOTE

The coin shown in the photographs is for display purposes only and is not included.

The stand works especially well with Morgan Dollars and other U.S. coins around 38 mm in diameter, but smaller U.S. denominations can also be displayed.
