This coin display presents the standing Britannia of the Edward VII florin: crested helmet, trident, billowing cloak and Union Flag shield. A coin platform sits on the base in front of the figure so the piece becomes part of the composition.

THE EDWARD VII FLORIN

The standing Britannia florin was designed for Edward VII and struck from 1902 to 1910. Britannia stands on a rock, facing right, holding a trident and resting her left hand on a shield bearing the Union Flag.

The florin, or two shillings, measures about 28.5 mm. Later standing-Britannia types, including some fifty-pence and bullion issues, can also be displayed when their diameter and thickness are supplied.

This sculpture uses that florin reverse as the starting point for a full standing figure. The windblown drapery, helmet and Union Flag shield are an artistic interpretation created to complement the 1902–1910 coin.
