About this display

Display your ancient coins alongside a standing sculpture of Alexander the Great, with an integrated platform for the coin.

This coin display presents Alexander in classical cuirass and cloak, based on the heroic portrait type familiar from Hellenistic royal coinage. A square coin platform is held at his side so the piece becomes part of the composition rather than sitting on a generic stand.

Aurea Displays connects the physical coin with the artwork, symbolism and history behind one of the most widely collected portraits in the ancient world.

ALEXANDER THE GREAT ON COINAGE

Alexander III of Macedon (356–323 BC) issued silver tetradrachms and gold staters that carried his image, or the closely related Heracles type, across a territory stretching from Greece to the Indus.

After his death those types continued under the Successors, which is why so many surviving tetradrachms still show the same youthful, leonine head. Typical silver tetradrachms measure about 25–28 mm; drachms and smaller fractions are closer to 16–18 mm.

This sculpture uses that royal portrait language as the starting point for a full standing figure in armour. The pose, cuirass and cloak are an artistic interpretation created to complement Hellenistic royal sculpture, not a copy of any one statue.

DESIGNED FOR ANCIENT AND HELLENISTIC COINS

This display is particularly suited to pairing an Alexander-type tetradrachm, a Successor issue, or another Greek silver coin with the standing figure.

The holder can be tailored to your coin’s diameter and thickness. Other ancient denominations can also be accommodated, including drachms, denarii and similar-sized pieces.

Please provide your coin’s diameter and thickness in the personalization field so the holder can be adapted to your chosen coin.

HISTORICALLY INSPIRED DESIGN

The head, hair and armour follow the classical Alexander type known from coins and later Roman copies.

It is an artistic interpretation, not a museum replica of a named original.
