About this display
A standalone death-mask bust of Napoleon I, based on the bronze Masque mortuaire de Napoléon Ier in the Musée du Louvre (LP 235).
The Louvre bronze was taken from the impression made about forty hours after the emperor’s death on St Helena, on 7 May 1821, and cast in Paris around 1833 for Dr Francesco Antommarchi’s subscription, by the founders Richard and Quesnel. Closed eyes, hollowed cheeks and the cut of the neck follow that bronze. This model is a 3D-printed interpretation of that real Louvre object, not an official museum replica.
The Antommarchi masks became the most widely known record of Napoleon’s face at the end of his life.

It is a historically inspired sculpture, not a museum cast or an official Louvre product.
