About this display
A standalone bust of Antinous, based on the colossal marble head known as the Antinous Mondragone in the Musée du Louvre (Ma 1205 / MR 412).
The original was carved in Italy in the second quarter of the second century AD, around 130–138, and later found at the Villa Mondragone near Tusculum. It shows Hadrian’s companion with the wavy locks, fillet holes and downcast gaze of a cult image: the eyes were once inlaid, and a metal wreath was fixed into the crown. This model follows that Louvre marble — the hair, the oval face and the truncated chest on a circular socle — as a 3D-printed interpretation of a real object, not an official museum replica.
Antinous drowned in the Nile in AD 130. Hadrian deified him, and portraits in this idealised, almost Dionysian type spread across the empire. The Mondragone head is among the most famous of those images.

It is a historically inspired sculpture, not a museum cast or an official Louvre product.
