About this display

Display your Romanian coins of Carol I alongside a standing sculpture of the king, with an integrated platform for the coin.

This coin display presents Carol I in later-life military uniform and kepi, the portrait type familiar from the silver and gold leu issues of his long reign. A coin platform sits on the base in front of the figure so the piece becomes part of the composition.

Aurea Displays connects the physical coin with the artwork, symbolism and history behind Romania’s first king and the founder of Peleș Castle.

KING CAROL I ON COINAGE

Carol I reigned from 1866 to 1914. His portrait appears on Romanian lei in silver and gold across those decades, from the early bearded issues through the later uniformed types. Peleș Castle, which he built at Sinaia, remains the monument most closely tied to his reign.

Romanian 5 lei silver of the period measures about 37 mm; smaller leu denominations and gold 20 lei pieces can also be displayed when their diameter and thickness are supplied.

This sculpture uses the later uniformed portrait as the starting point for a full standing figure. The kepi, tunic and sword are an artistic interpretation created to complement the coin likeness.

DESIGNED FOR ROMANIAN LEI

This display is particularly suited to pairing a Carol I leu, 5 lei or gold 20 lei with the standing figure.

The holder can be tailored to your coin’s diameter and thickness. Other Romanian coins of similar size can also be accommodated.

Please provide your coin’s diameter and thickness in the personalization field so the holder can be adapted to your chosen coin.

HISTORICALLY INSPIRED DESIGN

The uniform, kepi and beard follow the later portrait type of Carol I known from Romanian coinage.

It is an artistic interpretation, not an official National Bank of Romania product.
