About this display

A standalone sculpture of Dwight D. Eisenhower speaking with a paratrooper of the 101st Airborne, inspired by the famous photograph taken on the eve of D-Day. Figurine includes the USA flag

On 5 June 1944, Eisenhower — Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force — visited the 101st Airborne Division before the men boarded for Normandy. The photograph of him talking quietly with a soldier, notes in hand, became one of the defining images of the invasion: a general speaking not to a crowd, but to the men who would jump into the night.

This figurine restages that meeting. Eisenhower stands in dress uniform with a sheaf of papers; the paratrooper faces him in jump kit, helmet netting and combat boots. The scene is an artistic interpretation of that photograph, created as a collectible for a shelf, desk or history display.
