This coin display presents Borussia, the personification of Prussia: crowned, seated on a throne, a sword in her right hand and the Prussian eagle on the shield at her side. A coin platform sits on the base in front of the figure so the piece becomes part of the composition.

Aurea Displays connects the physical coin with the artwork, symbolism and history behind the allegorical figure that stood for the Kingdom of Prussia on nineteenth-century coinage and medals.

BORUSSIA ON PRUSSIAN COINAGE

Borussia is the Latin name for Prussia and the female personification of the kingdom. She appears crowned, with sword and eagle shield, on Prussian thalers, medals and later German commemorative types of the Vereinstaler period.

A Prussian Vereinsthaler measures about 33.5 mm. Kronenthalers and other German silver of similar size can also be displayed when their diameter and thickness are supplied.

This sculpture uses that seated Borussia type as the starting point for a full three-dimensional figure. The crown, sword, eagle shield and throne are an artistic interpretation created to complement Prussian silver of the mid-nineteenth century.

This display is particularly suited to pairing a Prussian Vereinsthaler or another German thaler with the seated figure.

The holder can be tailored to your coin’s diameter and thickness. Other German states’ silver of similar size can also be accommodated.
