About this display
A standalone Liberty statue inspired by James B. Longacre’s Coronet Head portrait on the U.S. three-cent nickel, struck from 1865 to 1889. Liberty’s coronet, ribboned hair and classical profile are based on the coin; as the original shows only her head and neck, the body and drapery are an artistic interpretation created to complement the mid-nineteenth-century design.
